The Immigration and Borders Service and the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) are organising a Conference for next Friday, March 27 2015, at the Auditorium of the School of Law of the University of Lisbon. This Conference will be held under the launching of the European Legislation Manual on asylum, borders and immigration and will be closed by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Anabela Rodrigues.
The Conference comprises two panels: “Legislation on asylum, borders and immigration: results and challenges”, and “Strengthening respect for Fundamental Rights: Global Approach for Migration and Mobility”.
The Manual, which presentation will be conveyed by FRA, is available in Portuguese and enables a global approach to the applicable legislation in matters of asylum, border management and immigration under the European Union Law and the European Convention on Human Rights. Its main goal is to “improve the awareness on common principles developed by case-law of the European Court of Human Rights and the EU Court of Justice, as well as EU regulations and directives, in order to ensure a correct application of the relevant rules, and that the fundamental rights are meticulously respected by each Member State”.
Given that this conference encompasses matters of asylum, borders and immigration, the Immigration and Borders Service joined the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights in the launching of the Manual in Portugal, thus cooperating in the dissemination initiative which has been extended to the several European Union Member States.
This Conference has the support of the School of Law of the University of Lisbon and of the European Information Centre Jacques Delors.
