On 21 February 2007, The Embassy of Cabo Verde in Lisbon has launched the integration of the Consular Offices in the System of Passport Emission of Cabo Verde, by issuing the first passport in connection with the central system. The Ministers of Internal Affairs of both countries were at the ceremony and the Lisbon Consulate will be the model for the remaining Consular Offices.
Within the scope of cooperation between Portugal and Cabo Verde and following various actions of cooperation with the Direction of the Immigration Service (DEF) of Republic of Cabo Verde, the Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service has set up training and supported the consolidation of the Information System of DEF, as well as its infra-structures and staff for passport emission.
The new System for Passport Emission of Cabo Verde was developed by using WEB technology and all new passports will be compatible with the ICAO norms and susceptible to optical reading.
By integrating the system of passport emission, Consular Offices will increase noticeably the quality of passports. A safe channel (with cryptogram reading) on internet guarantees that the emission originates at the Central Data Base, with all its usages and high levels of quality and safety. From the moment when all Consular Offices are in position to issue passports with data received from the central system, it will become possible to evolve onto the electronic passport.
