Press Release – Countrywide control and investigation operation in aerodromes and air border posts
The Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service (SEF – Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras) carried out a nationwide control and inspection operation aimed at controlling the identity and legal situation of foreign citizens in national territory.

The Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service (SEF – Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras) carried out a nationwide control and inspection operation aimed at controlling the identity and legal situation of foreign citizens in national territory.

The operation focused on air borders and its main goal was examining and controlling the identity of passengers using Schengen and domestic flights, and also collecting information on flows and modus operandi regarding illegal immigration and trafficking in human beings.

110 operational actions were conducted between 7-12 April. 8.743 citizens were controlled: 7.422 in the several air border posts (7) and 1.321 in national aerodromes (9), of 81 diverse nationalities, from which 7.694 were European Union or Associated States national citizens and 1.049 third-country nationals.

On the scope of the operation there was the detention of a foreign citizen that was leaving national territory, at Porto’s Airport, who was intercepted while trying to embark to Toronto, using for such purpose a forged passport.

At Lisbon’s Airport border post, a foreign citizen was refused to enter national territory, on grounds of using a forged passport.
