EASO's Executive Director visits the Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service
The National Director of the Immigration and Borders Service, Mr. Manuel Palos, received the Executive Director of the European Asylum Support Office (EASO), Dr. Robert Visser, on his first visit to our Country as EASO Executive Director.

In addition to a working meeting with SEF, this visit also encompassed a trip to the Refugee Hosting Centre run by the Portuguese Refugee Council, and to the Temporary Hosting Centre for Refugee Children founded this week within the scope of the project "Uma Casa para o Mundo" [A House for the World] which resulted from a partnership between the Portuguese Refugee Council, Swatch, The Ministry of Internal Affairs / The Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service, The Municipal Council of Lisbon, Sic Esperança, BPI [The Portuguese Bank of Investment], Foundation Luis Figo, and JCDecaux, among other entities.

EASO, was set up by the EU Regulation n. 439/2010 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 May 2012, and its main mission is the strengthening of practical cooperation among Member States on the many aspects of asylum, by facilitating the exchange of information and best practices between the European Union Countries. With head office in La Valletta, Malta, EASO works in close cooperation with the asylum authorities of Member States, with other immigration and asylum agencies and with the EU Commission, as well as with UNHCR and other relevant international organizations.

EASO has the following Management Board: one representative per Member State, which, in the case of Portugal is secured by SEF's National Director Manuel Palos and by SEF's Deputy National Director Francisco Marques Alves, and representatives from the Commission and UNHCR.
